Our extended GCL Family includes many Veterans, past and present. Without their sacrifices to protect our freedoms, organizations like ours would not exist. And because of organizations like the Disabled American Vets (DAV), our veteran family members are afforded services they desperately need but cannot always afford.
DAV is a nonprofit charity that provides a lifetime of support for veterans of all generations and their families, helping more than 1 million veterans in positive, life-changing ways each year. The organization provides more than 700,000 rides for veterans attending medical appointments and assists veterans with more than 300,000 benefit claims annually. In 2015, DAV helped attain more than $4 billion in new and retroactive benefits to care for veterans, their families and survivors. They are dedicated to a single purpose: empowering veterans to lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity. They accomplish this by ensuring that veterans and their families can access the full range of benefits available to them.
The Monroe County Powers Chapter 15 is one of the oldest DAV chapters in the state of New York established January 6, 1937 by veterans of World war one. They have been advocating for the veterans of Monroe county ever since. Volunteerism is a major contributor to the success of their programs as is donations. Our local DAV chapter is in need of a new van to provide transportation services for our veterans in the Rochester, Canandaigua and Syracuse regions.
